Our camp offers a wealth of opportunities for every group, featuring a variety of onsite activities designed to inspire and engage.  Located conveniently for access to offsite adventures too, we’re perfectly situated to enhance your experience with additional options. And, we collaborate with other local youth facilities, allowing us to offer even more exciting activities.   • Flying fox

    Soar Through the Air on the Flying Fox

    Experience the thrill of flight with our popular Flying Fox. A favourite among all ages, this exhilarating ride guarantees hours of fun and excitement. Whether you’re zipping across the course or cheering on your friends, the Flying Fox at Omaka Scout Camp is sure to create unforgettable memories.

  • Confidence course

    Our Confidence Course is packed with exciting challenges and loads of fun. Featuring 11 diverse obstacles—ranging from climbing and swinging to crawling—there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Perfect for team-building or personal growth, this course can be tailored to suit different skill levels and group needs. Get ready to boost your confidence and embrace new adventures at Omaka Scout Camp.

    Test Your Balance with the Slackline Challenge

    Get ready for an exciting test of skill and teamwork as you take on the Slackline challenge. Participants will attempt to cross the Otukaikino Stream—either solo or in teams—without taking a dip. This popular activity is perfect for building confidence, balance, and camaraderie. Will you make it across without falling in? Join the fun at Omaka Scout Camp and find out.

  • Feeding eels

    Get Up Close with Our Resident Eels

    At Omaka Scout Camp, we take great pride in our friendly resident eels. Join us at the eel feeding platform, where you can hand-feed these fascinating creatures and learn about their importance in our ecosystem. An informative sheet will guide you through the experience, teaching you how to help protect this endangered species.


    Tip: Consider letting the kids tackle the tyre tube run before diving into the eel education—it’s the perfect way to kick off a day of adventure.

  • Waterslide

    Race Down the Waterslide

    Get ready for an exhilarating splash with our exciting waterslide. Using our slide mat, the kids can challenge themselves and their friends to be the first to plunge into the stream. It’s even more fun when you pair it with inflatable mattresses. All the sliding gear, including mats and pegs, is conveniently stored in the Activity Shed.

  • River tubing

    Experience pure relaxation as you float down the stream on our fun-filled river tubing adventure. At Omaka Scout Camp, we have multiple tyre tubes available for everyone to enjoy. Grab a tube from the Activity Shed and get ready to relax and soak in the beautiful scenery as you drift along the water. It’s the perfect way to unwind and make lasting memories with friends.

  • Blind trail

    Step into the adventure of a lifetime on our Blind Trail, hidden in a pocket of dense bush. Participants are challenged to complete the course blindfolded—day or night—guided only by holding onto a rope. Along the way, you’ll encounter exciting challenges and obstacles that will test your teamwork and trust. This thrilling experience is especially popular at night, adding an extra layer of excitement. Blindfolds and instructions are available in the Activity Shed.

    Discover the fundamentals of safely crossing the stunning Otukaikino Stream. At Omaka Scout Camp, you'll learn essential techniques and best practices for navigating river crossings.     When the sun is shining, there’s no better way to cool off than a swim in the beautiful Otukaikino Stream. This seasonal activity invites you to take a dip in crystal-clear waters, perfect for splashing around and enjoying the great outdoors. Whether you’re swimming, floating, or simply soaking up the sun, the river is the ultimate summer retreat at Omaka Scout Camp.

  • Campfire pit

    Gather Around the Campfire Pit

    Enjoy the warmth and camaraderie of a campfire. Please note that this is a seasonal activity and fires can only be lit at Omaka Scout Camp with the permission of the committee. Once approved, it’s the perfect setting for storytelling, roasting marshmallows, and creating lasting memories with friends.

We’re here to ensure you have everything you need for days filled with adventure and excitement—all without breaking the bank. Our Activity Shed is conveniently located between the hall and the lodge, making it easy to access all the gear you need.

    Put your skills to the test with our large-scale wooden compass puzzle. You'll race against the clock to complete the puzzle, after which teams embark on one of two looped courses to locate hidden markers using their compasses. It’s a thrilling way to combine teamwork with navigation skills.

    For a truly enriching experience, some of our more challenging outdoor activities require guidance from qualified instructors. That’s why we partner with Youthtown Outdoors, a dedicated team ready to lead you through a variety of thrilling activities tailored to your group’s needs. Youthtown is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit organization that provides a comprehensive range of developmental activities for youth aged 5-18 across New Zealand. With their Outdoor Mark accreditation, we can confidently deliver our own outdoor programmes, while also receiving endorsements from other organizations to facilitate specialist programs on their behalf.


    In addition to their extensive offerings, Youthtown serves as a gateway to other community organizations that meet New Zealand’s Health and Safety regulations. In these instances, their staff will remain with the children, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience while implementing The Youthtown Way.     Ever dreamed of shooting arrows like Katniss from The Hunger Games ? Now’s your chance ! Youthtown offers expert instruction to teach you everything you need to know about archery. Understanding that each group has unique needs, they’re more than happy to discuss your specific requirements to ensure a tailored experience.  With ample space available, we have several options for setting up the archery range, making it an exciting activity for youth groups of all sizes.

  • Roto Kohatu Reserve

    Adventure Awaits at Roto Kohatu Reserve

    Just a stone's throw from Omaka Scout Camp, Roto Kohatu Reserve is a popular recreational hotspot for water sports enthusiasts. Comprising two stunning lakes—Tahi and Rua—this area offers a variety of activities. Tahi, the western lake, is exclusively leased to the Jetski Club, while Rua, the eastern lake, is perfect for dragon boating, sailing, fishing, and swimming. Dive into adventure and make the most of this beautiful lakeside retreat.  It's a five-minute stroll through the Omaka Scout Camp Carpark and through a tunnel walkway to get to the reserve.

  • Otukaikino Track

    Discover Nature on the Otukaikino Track

    Located adjacent to our carpark entry, the Otukaikino Track invites you to explore the great outdoors. This scenic walkway follows a charming stream, meandering through farmland and lush bush before reaching Clearwater Resort, home to numerous lakes. Beyond the lakes, The Groynes offers a variety of picnic and BBQ areas. The track stretches for 8.9 km (approximately 2.5 hours) from Darroch Street Reserve in Belfast to the exit at Lake Roto Kohatu. Lace up your walking shoes and immerse yourself in nature.

    Unwind at The Groynes

    The Groynes, located at 160 Johns Road, is a fantastic destination filled with waterways and walking tracks. Enjoy an range of activities, including fishing spots, picnic areas, and diverse walking paths. You can even rent paddleboats, play at the park, or engage in some fun orienteering. It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a day outdoors. The Groynes is a five-minute drive from Omaka Scout Camp or you can walk the Otukaikino Track to The Groynes.
